Copying test steps from one test case to another does not always behave the same

Sometimes i do not want to duplicate the entire test case, but just copy a few test steps. Highlighting them, pressing CTRL+C and the CTRL+V into the new test case then does not always behave the same.
Sometimes after pasting i can see seperate steps, just as i copied them, and sometimes if i for example copy 3 steps and paste them into a new test case, they are pasted as text into 1 test step.
I am not pasting then unformatted with CTRL+SHIFT+V.

Is there any known way to confidently replicate either one or the other? It seems random to me. I’d appreciate some insight if anyone had a similar experience!

Hi,

Thank you for the information and insights.

Would you mind sharing a few more details about when the issue happens if the result is pasted as text into a single test step? Unfortunately, I have not been able to reproduce the behavior yet, whether by copying and pasting full steps, multiple full steps, or only parts of steps.

Could you also try selecting the entire step by pressing Ctrl + A twice before copying and pasting? That would ensure the whole step is selected, in case the issue is caused by only part of the step being highlighted.

As an alternative, you can use the “Duplicate step” option in the “…” menu at the top right of each step. This duplicates the full step directly and avoids any potential editor selection issues.

Thank you very much,
Stefan

Hi,

Thank you for the detailed and thorough description. It was very helpful in allowing us to reproduce the issue.

We are planning to include a fix in one of our upcoming releases.

Thank you, Stefan

This got fixed with the latest release.

Best regards,
Alex
