Import testcases via .csv or .xlsx file in testiny?

Hi,

how do I import my test cases using .csv or .xlsx into my testing environment? Specifically, I’m interested in where the files should be placed, how the structure of the steps should be organized (do they need to be formatted separately or can they all be in one line in the same cell?), and how I can successfully incorporate additional data per test case, such as links to requirements in Jira or DevOps. I would greatly appreciate any experiences and tips you can share!

First of all, welcome to our community. It’s great to have you here.

We are actually very tolerant regarding the structure of your CSV files. For Excel, please save them as CSV first.

Give our Importer “Import” at the upper right in “Test Cases” a try.
For the structure, it’s best to download the sample CSV.

Steps can be structured in many ways; the “Advanced Settings” allow you to choose your format. We try to auto-detect the format, so I suggest uploading your file and checking the preview to see if it already meets your needs.

Additional data in Test Cases can be incorporated using our custom fields. Every column in the CSV can be mapped to a column in Testiny (“Adjust field mapping” at the upper right of the Import wizard); add custom fields to Testiny as you like.

I hope that helps you with your import.

Should there be any problems with the CSV, you can send the file via the importer directly to us for a closer review.
